To get the most out of your gameplay and perform at your best, you must ensure that all possible precautions are being taken to prevent eye strain as much as possible.
The Computer Vision Syndrome
Digital eye strain, also known as Computer Vision Syndrome, is a vision-related problem that results from prolonged usage of computer, tablet, or mobile phone. Many gamers, both pro and casual players, experience eye discomfort and vision problems when playing video games for extended periods, and the level of discomfort appears to be related to the amount of digital screen exposure. In the past years, gamers spend an average of seven hours a week playing video games, and those between the ages of 26-35 years old even play for over eight hours per week. On average, a gamer spends gaming for one hour and 22 minutes uninterrupted in a day, while the longest time gamers have ever played is four hours and 19 minutes straight. A screen time this long could significantly harm the eyes. Given the amount of time that most gamers today spend playing in front of the computer screens, computer vision syndrome is becoming increasingly common.

The following are ways to minimize, if not eliminate, your risk for computer vision syndrome:
Take a break and exercise your eyes
Make sure to have frequent breaks when in front of the computer screen for long periods. Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Take a 20-second break and focus on something 20 feet away about every 20 minutes. This will help in relaxing your eye muscles.
Adjust your monitor’s settings appropriately.
Adjust your computer screen brightness and display. Make sure that the brightness level is comfortable and doesn’t cause eye strain. Toning down the screen’s brightness won’t affect your gameplay or ability to see details that much, and it will be lighter on your eyes.
Check your lighting
Keep a light on in the room where you’re playing. Avoid glare by properly positioning the computer screen. Using an anti-glare screen can also minimize the amount of light reflected from the screen. Also, avoid playing in dark places because the difference in light intensity between your device or PC and your surroundings could harm your eyes.
